Dear Star Cruiser, Hi, I have a 1999 v-star classic. I have added D.G. Hardkrome slashcuts, had the carbs rejetted, but have been looking at the Kuryakyn Hyperchargers for some time. I see that you mentioned this system in your recent horsepower article. My question lies in the installation, HOW DO I MAKE IT FIT???? I have searched for a mounting bracket forever, have not had any luck. I picked the brain of my local harley shops, to no avail. I have seen pictures of the unit on stars' on the net? How are they doin' it??. Also one last question, you seem to know the stars' pretty well, I am interested in trying to haul a small trailer behind my unit, do you think that my machine is up to the task, with the modifications that I have made, and hopefully have in store for my bike? Any info you could send my way would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!
Dear Star Cruiser, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one. I'm a proud owner of a Dragstar (V-Star) Custom 650 and would love one of the Kuryakyn Hyperchargers I read about on your website. But they don't seem to be available in Australia. Can you help? Regards, Peter Imbesi
My Performance-building Friends- And even if you get the Hypercharger mounted, you won't be done yet! Jetting your carbs to run properly with a Hypercharger will probably end up taking MUCH more time than mounting the Hypercharger yourself. Also be aware that it is an established fact that so far, BAK/GAK-equipped motorcycles outperform Hypercharger equipped bikes. To my knowledge, no one has yet successfully installed automatically adjusting jets to compensate for the added air the Hypercharger provides at speed. Once someone does - watch out! The good news is that the aftermarket is listening. A company called PBM makes Hypercharger kits for various metric cruisers. You can find out more at:

Or write to: I have no experience with these guys, so don't take this as an endorsement. There is yet another company that makes Hyperchargers - they are an Italian firm called Tamburini. There is contact information for Tamburini in the ISRA Forum's Yellow Pages section - but be sure to brush up on your Italian! To my Australian friend, Hyperchargers are available from just about every Harley shop in the world - that is the first place I'd look. You may have some luck with online Harley suppliers, too. And to my friend who is looking to tow a trailer. Hmm… I know people have done it and done successfully. All I can say for sure is that your manual recommends that you DON'T use a trailer. You may want to give the ISRA a forum a try to find someone who has already tried it. Good luck, guys! Letters to the editor should be sent to: editor@bikers.com |
