Welcome to yet another long-overdue issue of the StarCruiser but better late than never. (I guess ;-) Remember last issue I mentioned we had two new sub-editors working on the StarCruiser? Well that didn't exactly work out and as such this issue was passed around and around, and then landed back on my lap. No rest for the wicked.
But the good news is ...
Matt Galvin has been working in the background giving the Starchives (backissues index of the StarCruiser) a much needed face-lift to match the rest of the new-look StarCruiser, as well as updating the index to list the more recent articles. So go take a look at the Starchives and let Matt know he's done a bonza job.
Anyway, enough of my rabling.. On to what's in this issue...
9-11-01 - I know it's a bit late, but this story really hit home for me so we dicided to publish it anyway. I just can't imagine what it was like, but Chrissie gives a good account of the day.
AIS Removal on the 1100 - I would hazard a guess that there has been more posts on the forum on this subject than any other, and John has done a great job of documenting the full procedure. (John, get in touch with me as I lost your email address. ;-)
Bear Falls in Love - Richard Redfern can tell a mean tale and he has excelled himself in this one. A true word-smith!
Ride to Berrima Pub - Good old "Toasty" doesn't let us down by covering yet another ride us Aussies got up to a while back. Mind you, I think he took liberties with the photos and some handy digital retouching. ;-)
Headlight Aiming - Is there no end to her talents? She can write a great ride report (see last issue), she rides her bike through snow, does all the ISRA accounts and merchandise, and she can get technical on us too!
Tools - And making a return to the StarCruiser (hopefully) each month will be a joke or two. Yes, you've probabably read it before, but it gives me a chuckle every time I read it. Send in any bike-related joke if you come across it, but sorry, no ISRA patch unless you are the original author of the joke! ;-)
Star of the Month - Damn, what can I say? Wes has put together a great team to work what what is truly a beautiful and very customised ride. Congrats, Wes!
But just quickly on this subject... Would you believe the hardest part about putting this StarCruiser together is getting a Star of the Month! Believe it! Yet, I cruise through the forum and see some magnificent bikes, and I don't just mean the worked to extreme custom jobs either. There are some classy rides out there that have been decked out for comfort too that I feel are worthy of accolades. Yet each month we almost have to beg people for some pictures and a few words about their machine.
Come on folks, show some pride in your beast and send us a picture or two along with a few words on what you have done to it. Make our job difficult (in a nice way) so that we have to actually sweat over which stunning bike should we publish. If we like it, we will be in touch and ask for a few more pictures. The kind of pictures that work well (but certainly not the only angles that work!) are:
- Side on (left and right), camera level with the seat.
- 45 degree front left or right, camera at standing eye level
- 45 degree rear left or right, camera at axle height
- CLOSE UPS! Believe it or not, people want to see details!
- Women! Sorry girls, but it's true. We like seeing you astride a bike, be it your own or your partner's - bikinis optional! ;-)
- Men! Yes guys, the girls want to see us butch blokes on our rides, complete with dark shades, a tidy goatee, and mean attitude... Chaps optional! ;-)
So get your cameras out make like a Star!
Remember, each of the above and every author that gets their story published in the StarCruiser, gets PAID for their contributions! That's right, we offer each and every one of you the opportunity to not only get your name up in lights, but also get PAID by way of an official ISRA patch, or equivalent credit (currently $8) in the ISRA Merchandise Store. Get four articles published, get $32 credit...
We've given you an even better reason to send in:
A ride report - Take a few pics and tell us where you went.
A product review - Let others know how good/bad a product is.
Any bike-related story - Funny or sad, share it with your friends.
Company information - Know a company that is doing the right thing?
Star of the Month - Don't be shy! Believe it or not, we need more!
Articles must be submitted in electronic form (Word, HTML, plain text) and we are kind of making it a must to include at least one picture. Come on, it's not THAT hard. A picture of you on your bike, a close-up of the item you are reviewing, a picture of the scenery where you rode.
Send your submissions to:

We would like to welcome Custom Cycle Cafe to the ISRA as they have been kind enough to sponsor this edition of the StarCruiser. Please visit their web site by clicking on their banner at the bottom of any page. They have a tres cool range of gear that any rider of metric cruisers would be proud to wear.
I don't have details at hand, but they are offering ISRA members special discounts so make sure you mention the StarCruiser when making a purchase.
This edition of the StarCruiser was brought to you by
Mark 'Gonzo' Jelic and the number 13. We will try to make the issues come more regularly, so the March issue should be out by February 23rd. See you then!
