A bike rally isn't a rally without a
Wet T-Shirt Contest!
2002 Australia Day Poker Run (Pt 2)
by: Mark "Gonzo" Jelic - ISRA#13

I'll have to keep this short or I'll never get this issue of the StarCruiser published!

Day 1 had been fantastic (click here to read about it) but with the next two night being spent in Pubs, there was no other chance to get the traditional fire into the equation. I ended up falling asleep beside it.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to start a fire at 2am, in the dark, when you are not sober! ;-)

The next morning we had breakfast and then met up at the local wood carver. Man was he talented. Check out his site at: www.briansdesigneroffcuts.com.au

The level of detail that Brian goes to is incredible!

Then it was on the road... Not that we stayed in one group or even went the right way! Toasty and I did (after a few false turns each) but we at least traveled on the planned route! The rest of the group went the long way! <g>

On the road.

But we did all end up at this cute little cafe on the Bucken Highway. (Not a typo. ;-)

Another chance to try and get some food into my depleted body... Nope, a banana smoothie is all I can handle.

By the time we get to Omeo, clouds were building up. But it was so stinking hot and humid, we actually welcomed the rain. Mind you, it seemed like this one cloud followed just me and Romeo... No one else seemed to get wet!

Thanks to the rain that seemed to only follow my bike, I had a big cleaning job once we got to Bright! :(

The roads around this region really are superb!

Now THESE are twisties!

The bike show had it's controversies, with the Waggans forming a "voting block" that nearly upset the "Best Bike of Show" category, Big Pete nearly taking the prize!

All bikes we in the running for 6 different categories.

I was hoping to win the Best Custom award, but T.J. had his Royal decked out with his personally custom made "Coffin Panniers" that had everyone talking.

Want a set? Sorry, they are one off custom jobs.

We even had an impromptu Best Tattoo competition, with Mirella taking the award hands down. Next Year she will have some competition, though! <g>

Looking gooood!

If it was not for the following three girls, there would not have been a Wet T-Shirt competition. You see, it was supposed to happen around 9pm, but there was next to no one in the pub except for these girls sitting next to us. After a few drinks, I told them we were thinking of hold a contest and would they be interested in the prize of $200. Got them! I knew that once we had a couple of girls up there, more were to follow! <seg>

Gee, why did we nickname him Romeo? ;-)

Here was the starting line-up, with another girl (Danni) joining in just after this photo.

Notice that none of them were wearing the appropriate white t-shirts!

When a call was made to the now VERY full pub that the girls need white shirts to properly participate, you should have seen how man men ended up standing in just their jeans! <lol>

Look at the expression on Mav's face! <lol> Yes, she was the biggest. <g>

The girls really enjoyed themselves which was the main thing. (Yeah, right! ;-)

Some very enthusiastic women!

Some of the girls didn't bother waiting till "round two" to bare all for the crowd, much to the delight of the now very vocal 200+ people in the small beer garden!

Not a shy girl!

Mav really excelled himself. The precision and care at which he took to douse the girls was a testament to the fine and upstanding members we have in our group! <g>

Holy mackerel!!!

"Round two" had the six girls paired down to just three, as voted by the whooping and clapping of the crowd. Each of the remaining three girls then got to show the crowd any latent "talents" they had hidden. Well! Let me tell you that when the eventual winner lifted her leg straight up to behind her ear, the roar of the crowd was almost deafening. I honestly thought the girl must have had no knickers on (i had a quick check) by the way they were carrying on!

After this stunt, she then preceded to do a backwards handstand! The girl was flexible, let me tell you!

The other two girls couldn't do much to top that, although a valiant "doubles" act was quickly concocted, much to the surprise of the organisers and delight of the crowd! <g>

But there was not stopping this lass and she ran away with the $200

I'd like to dedicate this ride to my good party-animal, Mav. Unfortunately, he came across some rough times soon after this ride (Ansett went out of business and he was one of their pilots) and thus had to sell his "Best Sound" winning Royal Star.

Mav, if you're reading this, we miss ya buddy and hope to see you on a Star once again. Thanks for all the great rides together and I'll never forget our first Wet T-Shirt competition.

A top bloke! Hope to see him again soon.

Man, could it get any better? Day 3 was ahead of us but with little sleep at Cann River, and staying up very late this night with four of the girls from the comp at the local night club, it was looking very bleak for myself and Romeo the next morning.

Tune in next issue for the conclusion to AusDay02.

I still wouldn't be dead for quid's! <g>
