Helmet Lock Relocation for V-Stars
by: Mark "Frosty" Vigors - ISRA#7952

Well I can’t take the credit for coming up with this idea, that has to go to SCSVMAX on the forum who mentioned it. But I took the picture of it to make this article for the Star Cruiser, so I get the free ISRA patch! Woo Hoo! <g>

When I purchased my V-Star 650 the most important accessory to me was saddle bags. The only downer with this was that the helmet lock, being on the rear fender, was going to be covered by them. A small sacrifice you might say, but one I found to be a nuisance when I really would have preferred to leave my helmet with the bike instead of carrying it around everywhere. Now I know the helmet lock is not going to foil the determined thief but it will slow down the casual passer by.

The Helmet Lock bolt has the same thread that holds the neck-covers in place.

I thought the dealer had removed the lock but when I had my bags off a while ago found they’d left it there to dig into the leather of my bags. So I started looking for other places it might mount. I came up with all sorts of complicated engineering solutions which naturally resulted in me doing nothing about it.

I then happened upon a post which mentioned that the thread on the bolts which hold the plastic cover over the ignition switch are the same as the bolt for the helmet lock. Also, that the lock fits nicely behind the forks. Five minutes later I had my lock back.

Ride safe,
Frosty
